We often talk about how people of other races and ethnicities are misrepresented on online dating platforms — which is true. However, I always felt like there is another niche that doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves — plus-size dating.

The ideal match on many platforms is a typical skinny girl and six-pack guy, and anyone that doesn’t fall into these standards feels unattractive. BBPeopleMeet appeared on the market to change that situation — let’s see if they succeed.

BBPeopleMeet is a dating service where big and beautiful people meet. It’s a body-positive community where curvy ladies and men can find relationships and hookups.

The site founded and owned by PeopleMedia — the company that also owns This group is known for buying and acquiring inclusive communities, which was another reason for me to give it a try.

My BBPeopleMeet review, as usual, is based on five key criteria:

  • Affordability: I evaluate costs of the platform and functionality, offered by its memberships;
  • Audience quality: a deeper look at the user pool for fake detection;
  • Interface: examining the style and usability of the service;
  • Privacy and security: digging into service Privacy Policy and sharing my personal opinion;
  • Hookup chance: evaluating the actual dating potential of the site.

Let’s see if BBPeopleMeet lives up to its ambitious purpose of connecting people of all bodies and shapes.

BBPeopleMeet dating site is an inclusive plus-size community

BBPeopleMeet has a limited free version: users can browse feed, view profiles, but not message other users directly. The free app is only working as a demo-version — you can take a look at matches, see if your area is popular and decide if you want to pay for dating.

The full version allows messaging potential, dates, seeing favorite profiles and adding people to the list, send flirts, comment other profiles, and see users who said yes to your profile.

The full version costs $14.99 per month. The six-months plan is worth $35.76 — buying a long-term plan is a much better deal.

BBPeopleMeet is an affordable dating site, but it would be nice if the free version offered more possibilities

Audience quality

So far, the app unites more than 750,000 members, 410,000 of which are from the United States. The website allows registering regardless of body type — skinny people are also welcome, but the majority of users are curvy. The website is popular among slim daters who want to have a plus-size partner.

Age and gender distribution

The majority of members are over 35 years old, and the service offers a 50/50 gender ratio. The website is great both for men and women — there is a much choice — but millennials will likely feel underrepresented since most users represent the older age group.

Fakes and scammers

BBPeopleMeet is as fake-free as a dating community could be. This is caused by strict verification rules. Each member is required to upload several personal pictures, and they undergo admin’s verification before the account is approved. So, there is no way to upload a stock picture or a photo of a celebrity. Verification takes a while — I got my approval email in 3 hours after completing the profile.

BBPeopleMeet’s interface is very similar to On the main page, a future user can choose the gender and sexual preferences — that redirects you straight to the demo-version of the feed. You can take a look at example profiles of BBPeopleMeet’s daters and register if you want to.

The site feels outdated at times. The inspiration from Match is clear — the platform has no personal style. I expected something more unique from a body-positive platform but instead got another generic dating page.

Singing up

Registration is pretty fast — it took me about 5-7 minutes to fill out all the forms. You can’t skip fields with personal information and additional questions for later — these fields are mandatory and have to be filled for the profile to get approval. The website has no personality tests and compatibility indicators — users mostly rely on personal descriptions.

Each new member is required to post at least one photo — it’s necessary for profile verification. You can’t post more than 30 photos, even in the paid version. Required personal information includes orientation, location, username, password, birth date, and email for a confirmation.

Registering on BBPeopleMeet site is easy and quick

If you want to get more compatible matches, you can later go to additional questions, located in “Personality Questions” and “Top Interests” sections.

The profiles consist of basic information — location, age, orientation, personal description, and essential facts. Before the moderation team approves your photo, the profile is only private and invisible. The interactions with profiles can be either via direct messages or flirts — both are available only in the full version.

Dating profiles on BBPeopleMeet are detailed and open to everyone

The profile sections include an introduction about the one I’m looking for, top interests, message ideas, personality questions, etc. You don’t have to message a user to be able to preview the full profile. Also, each account has an online status update — you can choose only to see users who are active on the platform at the moment.

A lot of BBPeopleMeet members are looking for serious relationships, so they take all the information boxes and answers seriously. I got a lot of information about my future dates just by looking at profiles — although this aspect is common for Match, too.

Contacting other users

The Feed allows searching for matches by their username, online or offline status, profile views, and keywords. The website analyzes profile’s contents and detects keywords. Additional filters include location, gender, ethnicity, etc.

To message or flirt with other users, you need to buy a paid subscription. Profile previews are free, which is a good idea because I like getting to know potential matches before I commit to paying for a service.

You can join group chatrooms, sorted by interests and locations. Here, members mostly discuss their romantic experiences or recent events. After all, it’s nice to know what the partner thinks of important political events or which music the person prefers.

Mobile app

BBPeopleMeet has an app for Android and iOS. The application has the same functionality as a desktop version. The app allows you to preview feeds, message other users, send flirts, and upload up to 30 pictures. Just like in the main version, the app doesn’t allow contacting members in a free version.

Privacy and security

The service is scam-free. Since all users are required to pay before they can send a message as well as upload pictures, the number of scammers is close to none — they prefer to not go through such struggles. However, I do have some questions about data storage practices.

Websites of the PeopleMedia group are monetized with advertising. That alone is already not good news — the site is paid already, whereas making money by showing ads is usually a practice of free platforms. To attract advertisers, the website uses the personal data of its users. They don’t disclose the ownership of the data, but still, the information is used for targeted ads. In a free site, it’s an acceptable practice, but on a paid service, I’d like my privacy to be respected.

Hookup chance

BBPeopleMeet has a friendly community. People aren’t too picky about looks — I received a load of compliments. However, some found me to be “too skinny” for the website and said that I should’ve registered elsewhere. Naturally, I didn’t get offended at that, but come on, since when do we discriminate people on their looks on a body-positive site? This is typical on any exclusive community — members want to feel the integrity of the user pool.

Still, I managed to land four dates, and all of them went fairly nice. I decided not to pursue any of these relationships further, but the experiences were satisfactory. So, the website works well, indeed, and the expectations for looks are lower than on other sites — although users are beautiful.

Matching algorithms

Users have a lot of freedom on the website. The platform doesn’t pre-select matches, leaving members to decide on their types and preferences. To sort through matches, users can work with filters, determining location, gender, orientation, status, ethnicity, etc.

Pure: best BBPeopleMeet alternative

In Pure, the algorithm will delete your account an hour after you start searching for a partner. If you match, you have another hour to talk in the chat — then it will also be automatically deleted. This makes the service inaccessible and uninteresting for bots, fakes, and crooks. Pure users are alive personalities who do not hide their desires and want to find a partner in the next hour.

How other plus-size girls date online

If this is your first online dating experience and you aren’t too confident yet, I recommend taking a look at this girl’s story. She honestly describes the ups and downs of plus-size dating life and shares hacks that helped her along the way.

Big Beautiful People Meet serves as an excellent example to other apps on the industry. The plus-size segment is misrepresented, and it certainly deserves more attention. It’s great that curvy people have their dedicated community where they can look for relationships and encounters.

I don’t feel like the current version of BlackPeopleMeet fully reflects the values of the body-positive community. The website looks like another generic dating service, and it doesn’t offer enough community activities and specific dating features.

It looks like the team just took a general dating template and adjusted it to the big-size community without researching the needs of users. I hope that the service will become more friendly and modern, and one day, attract more millennials and Generation Z.
