As a relationship expert, I am firsthand familiar with how it is to be in an interracial relationship. There are a lot of stereotypes as to why white guys shouldn’t date black girls and vice versa. Although I never treat them seriously, it’s hard to see how potential Afroamerican partners lose confidence when talking to me because their families are not happy about interracial dating.
I feel like there should be more platforms that fight racial and ethnic stereotypes. That’s why I was extremely happy to find out about AfroRomance — a platform where people can find black-black, white-black, or white-white relationships.
I gave it a try, and here’s what my experience of using AfroRomance was like.
Although at first glance, AfroRomance might seem well-priced, it turns out, all costs listed on the upgrade page are weekly — since you have to pay for a monthly subscription, the membership fee is rather expensive.
The good news is, there’s a free version of the platform as well. If you want to access all features of the website, choose a premium membership plan among three: a monthly $19.95/m subscription, a quarterly membership fee — $39.50, or a 6-month upgrade for $69.95.
Similarly to most hookup platforms, the free version of the AfroRomance dating site only gave me a glimpse of the platform. While I could create a profile, look for girls, and view their profiles, there was no way to get in touch with prospective matches, and my profile ranked low in search results.
Once you upgrade the platform, that’s when you get full freedom and a broader range of features. I was able to browse profiles without girls knowing I checked them out, see who took a look at my account. I could send messages and see who added my profile to the list of favorites.
Based on my experience, I’d suggest upgrading the AfroRomance app for at least a month if you want to be serious about interracial dating. Otherwise, there’s no point in wasting your time.
If you live in the US, AfroRomance is a popular and worthwhile website to sign up for. I had dozens of matches in my area and had a decent choice of girls of different ages, body types, and sexual preferences.
AfroRomance is not as popular in Asia, Latin America, or Western Europe. If you are from these areas, you’ll hardly get a wide selection of matches — picky daters should look for interracial relationships elsewhere.
AfroRomance is among few dating platforms with a close-to-equal number of guys and girls. While I still picked up slight male dominance, the gender distribution on the AfroRomance dating app is close to 50/50.
AfroRomance is a mature dating space. Most people in my search feed and those who texted me were between 35-45 years old. If you fall into the same age group and are looking for a committed relationship, you will not regret signing up for the platform.
Based on my experience, younger users might feel bored and uninspired to try AfroRomance. Few people on the platform are in their early twenties — 5% of men and women, respectively.
As for millennials and people over 45 years old, I’d say you have high odds of matching here. Around 20% of users are between 25-35 years old, 15% have crossed the 45-year-old threshold.
Fakes and scammers
AfroRomance has a tight security policy. The platform encourages all users to upload pictures and complete their profiles. Since you can see how fully a person’s account is complete, weeding fakes out is a piece of cake.
After scrolling the AfroRomance search feed for a while, I left with a positive impression of the platform’s users — most had genuine home-made photos and a detailed profile description. In my opinion, AfroRomance is a safe bet for a first-timer in online dating.
As soon as I saw the homepage, I thought that the interface is not the platform’s strong suit. It felt a little clunky and primitive, so I started doubting how feature-rich such a primitive website can be. However, after completing my profile, I realized I might have judged the book by its cover.
It turns out, AfroRomance has an intuitive, straightforward, and well-thought-out interface. Detailed profiles, intuitive built-in messenger, and a smooth layout that put every tab where I want it to be — there isn’t much more to ask of the platform.
AfroRomance has a two-step signing up policy. It was slightly disappointing if you ask me — I quickly filled in the form on the homepage, hoping I will be able to see a custom reel of hotties near me right away.
However, after filling in the AfroRomance sign in form on the main page, the platform takes to a larger form where you have to specify your relationship expectations, location up to a city, create a strong password, and even write a bio.
At first, I wrote a short, few-word bio, but the website refused to accept it and asked to extend my answer to at least 20 words. After 3-4 minutes, I was finally signed up. All in all, the registration process is quite hassle-free, but you need to fully dedicate at least 3 minutes to set up the profile.
Uploading a picture on AfroRomance is optional — however, the platform asks users to only text people with a profile photo. It claims to rank accounts with no avatar lower than those with a picture.
AfroRomance profiles are detailed — there’s a picture gallery, general user data, and additional information. Next to each account, there’s a status bar — it’s convenient to know if a girl you are interested in is online.
There are three buttons below a prospective partner’s name. The blue “Message” button allows Premium subscribers to text a potential match. You can send a flirt as well — for free users, it’s an opportunity to catch a girl’s attention and hope she gets back to you. You can add profiles into Favorite lists to not lose the hottest people in the search reel.
AfroRomance offers users several ways to connect with matches. You can either send a text directly, click the heart button next to the profile in the reel to send a flirt, or save a contact as your favorite.
Even though you can’t message people with no premium subscription, you can answer to somebody’s texts for free. As long as you have an eye-catching profile picture and a captivating bio, you can hope to get by on AfroRomance without a premium membership.
The messenger has a straightforward interface, typical for social media and text exchange apps. The list of messaging features is limited to sending texts and images — there’s no way to share videos or voice memos.
AfroRomance is only available in browsers. Although there’s no mobile app, I could still access texts via a smartphone — the interface of the platform is intuitive and doesn’t take much time to load. AfroRomance mobile login doesn’t take that much time either.
I would much rather wish there was a mobile app seeing how reading extended profile bios and zooming in on pictures is uncomfortable in the Aforomance mobile web version.
Security and privacy
The platform doesn’t have first-rate security protection. Users aren’t required to confirm their emails or to take additional pictures and send them for moderation. While, on the one hand, it improves the user-friendliness of the website, on the other, gives people additional ways to protect themselves from fakes would be reasonable.
Due to its narrow user base and niche positioning, the AfroRomance development team doesn’t struggle with fakes and scammers. Most users on the platform are genuine and committed to relationships. In essence, all girls I wrote, at the very least, texted back, I even became good friends with a couple of AfroRomance white Australian women.
There have been no AfroRomance complaints in terms of security either — at least, I haven’t seen many negative AfroRomance dating site reviews.
All in all, I’d say you are safe here, as long as you follow the basic rules of online privacy — resist sharing your passwords, credit card data with anybody. Don’t send inappropriate pictures to people you didn’t get to know well — these may later be used for blackmail.
I was pleased with AfroRomance. If the platform was not as expensive and ad-heavy, I could even consider it top-tier. For now, I recognize the website as a reliable place for building interracial relationships — however, there’s plenty of room for improvement when it comes to user interface and mobile convenience.
AfroRomance has a detailed search tab. You can use filters or keywords to find partners of a preferred age or ethnicity. Besides, feel free to sort search results by popularity, date of registration, location, or age difference. Other than that, AfroRomance doesn’t have any set-in-stone matching algorithms — you are on your own in sorting through search results.

How can I pay for the premium membership?
AfroRomance supports the most common payment methods — PayPal, American Express, or a different bank credit card.

Does AfroRomance have a matching algorithm?
Although the platform can’t boast a unique matching feature, there’s a search tab with multiple filters. You will be able to find users that match a preferred location, age limits, body type, ethnicity, and relationship expectations.
Can I chat with girls on AfroRomance?
Yes, there’s a built-in chat and AfroRomance inbox on the platform. You can exchange texts and pictures there. Keep in mind, however, that only premium members can send texts — if you use a free version, only replying to messages is available.
An AfroRomance user is rude to me — how do I block him?

Can I build a long-lasting relationship on AfroRomance?
Connecting with people romantically is harder when the platform limits you. Paying for the full version gives users more freedom this way — however, it ups the stakes as well.
The good news is, you can try using AfroRomance for three months — if you don’t like the platform after this time, contact the development team and claim your money back. Website owners promise a full moneyback guarantee — you will be refunded.
Can I use AfroRomance via a smartphone?
While there’s no AfroRomance mobile app, you can use the mobile version of the platform. It’s fast and intuitive, although it isn’t as convenient as a full-fledge application would be.
Am I safe on AfroRomance?
Although AfroRomance is not the most secure dating platform around, it does a good job of protecting people from fakes and AfroRomance scam. You shouldn’t be fully relaxed when taking to strangers here — take care of your privacy and stay safe.
Does AfroRomance validate user profiles?
There’s no profile validation mechanism — you don’t have to confirm your email or complete a captcha check either. However, if the account is repeatedly reported, it will be banned forever.
My account got banned — what do I do?
Technically, you can create a new profile anytime, as long as you have another email address. Contacting customer support and finding out the reason is another way to go — maybe, your profile is blocked by accident.
AfroRomance is a one-of-a-kind dating platform. There are few interracial dating platforms and even fewer good ones. That’s why I didn’t judge the AfroRomance interracial dating website too harshly — the development team is doing a decent job of bringing people of all races and ethnicities closer together.
If for some reason, you have problems dating people of a different ethnicity or want to find partners that match your race, AfroRomance can be a go-to choice. However, if interracial dating is not a priority, consider choosing a regular hookup or fetish dating platform instead, since it will likely have more sexting, matchmaking, and security features.
