Badoo dating app review. How to use – first-hand experience

Online dating
September 4, 2019

If you’re tired of swiping left and right on Tinder, you might wonder if there is anything better to find a date. Badoo app is one of the biggest services for discovering single people around you, and it is quite a competitor in the field of dating apps.

The app was first launched in 2006. Now it is one of the biggest operating dating apps across the globe. According to the statistics, it has 425 million users in 190 countries.

Badoo app is believed to be more a complicated dating app, therefore, more thorough than Tinder when it comes to date browse. I decided to take my chances and see whether Badoo is practically different from any other dating app.

Joining Badoo community

The app is available for iOS and Android. It is free to download and mostly free to use. Getting a bit ahead of myself — the free version is sufficient unless you want upgrades.

If you are in a hurry, you can set up your profile in under 5 minutes: choose your gender, date of birth and email or phone number. This is required to get your email verified.

Badoo app offers you to choose one of the following options: whether you’re looking for serious relationships, casual dating, sexting for free or, as they call, you are open-minded. It helps to filter people by their purpose.

Add a couple of photos, and your Badoo app profile is set for an initial date search. After you finished the registration, the app shows the estimated amount of people nearby. In my case, it discovered 100,432 people around ready to meet. It seems like enough options to keep me occupied for some time.

The app recommended adding more information about me to make the search algorithm work better. The extended questionnaire includes some peculiar points: among classical questions like how do you feel about smoking, drinking, kids, you can specify your body type, height, sexuality.

There are three open questions: for example, what is the ultimate dealbreaker for you or what do you do to spoil yourself. Definitely more fun to answer those than some trivial questions.

Interests are a long list of categories to choose from. Among the dating apps, Badoo goes into details, and you might need some extra time to represent yourself accurately.

Right next to the profile, there is an indicator that shows your popularity. It was a bit disappointing to see it “very low” at first, but despite this, I got overwhelmed with messages and notifications. For a day of not very active usage, I’ve got to “very popular” with almost 1000 notifications on likes and messages taken on my account. A lot of fish in the sea, if you ask me, even without any extra boosters for credits.

One of the best things is that you can be sure most of those people are real. Badoo dating app uses photo verification, which means users need to take specific photos to verify that they are real. There are, on the other hand, some bots created by Badoo, to keep you interested when you just started.

Find me a match!

There are two ways to search for the match: the cards and the nearby search.

The cards work sort of like Tinder, where you swipe to choose a person you like. Here you can filter matches by age, gender, and distance. As a paid user, you get “crush” buttons: if you like someone very much, you use it instead of like. Another cool feature of Badoo dating app for Premium users is that you can go one profile back in case you misclicked or changed your mind.

The nearby search is based on your location. The globe button opens a list of people who are near you. Some of them are those you bumped into during the day and didn’t know. All the others are those who are within a particular distance from you and who fit your filters. Quite convenient if you want, say, have a drink right now.

There’s an interesting feature of live streams called Badoo live. You can either join the existing one or start streaming yourself. You have a chat where people send you messages and gifts while you’re airing on video. Live streaming allows you to get tokens and exchange them for credits. Then you use credits to buy gifts or extra boosts. Another way to get credits is swiping. The more you swipe, the more credits you get.

What I liked

There are three things I liked about Badoo dating app: the audience size, safety, and free features.

  • Large audience. It is easy to believe more than 425 million people are using it. It is almost impossible to stay idle with no match whatsoever: users are active, and you can quickly establish contact.
  • Safety. You don’t need to link your social media unless you want to. You can ban a person if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe by using the “report abuse” button.
  • Free features. Everything you need to start matching is free. Premium account gives you access to some popularity boosts, no ads and a couple more features, but all in all free version is enough.

What I didn’t like

Speaking of flaws, I’d highlight four of them: notifications, the quality of the audience, setup time, and the matching algorithm.

  • The notifications. Badoo app notifies you about messages, likes, visits of your profile, crushes, and other events. You end up with 1000+ notifications just hanging there. Add pushes and emails to it.
  • The quality of the audience. It’s huge, but I’d say the audience is slightly simpler than Tinder, and not in a laid back cool way. A certain percentage just seems plain boring, but maybe you’ll get luckier.
  • Setup time. You need quite a lot of time to set up the profile fully since you want it to give you some extra points to the matches. Your popularity also partly depends on your activity.

The matching algorithm. You fill up all the interests and other stuff to be ranked higher in the search, but you can’t really use it for searching. So despite all the extra questions, it’s still mostly about the appearance.

Are there any alternatives?

Yes! In case you feel like Badoo is something you already tried or not exactly your thing, there’s Pure. This app for freehookup is quickly gaining popularity and trust among users because of its simplicity and safety.

Pure doesn’t require any social media links or even permanent profile. All the chats get erased in an hour, and you can be sure your private life stays private. It takes a couple of minutes to set up the account and start searching for people ready to meet. Truly an excellent alternative for those who are looking for something new and exciting. Here you will learn how to find milfs for one night stand or where to meet the love of all your life. The app provides opportunities, everything else depends on you!

Badoo app VS Pure: is for real meetings, not endless chats online

Pure users have only an hour to chat before their profiles disappear. In one hour, you send a casual sex request to potential matches near your location, discuss your desires, and share contact detail to set up an offline date. If you want to repeat the search and find other matches, you have to create a new profile. No worries, it takes a minute.
