This dating review is special — this time, I helped my mom to get a match. It was also my first time setting foot on a senior dating website, and I had an entirely new experience.

LumenApp is a casual dating website for seniors where they can choose to date with no commitments. It’s not a sex app, but casual sex is a possibility here.

As usual, I evaluated the Lumen dating site on five criteria:

  • Affordability: paid and free features;
  • Audience quality: the legitimacy of the user base, gender and age distribution;
  • Interface: usability of the service;
  • Privacy and security: safety algorithms and the quality of technical support;
  • Hookup chance: the real probability of finding a dating partner.

My Lumenapp review turned out to be meticulous — so I promise nitty-gritty details.

Lumen is a free mobile app for Android and iOS. Technically, I could use features, but there are time constraints for free members.

Free services

I could message users, preview the feed, upload photos, edit my profile, and participate in group discussions. However, the app wouldn’t let me start more than 5 conversations per day. A single conversation shouldn’t last for more than 3 days.

Paid services

Lumen App provides four premium plans: $11.99 for one week, $35.99 for a month, $71.99 for 3 months, and $99.66 for half a year. The upgraded membership lets you see which users marked your favorite, extend three-day limitations by 24 hours, start 12 conversations, and choose two additional filters.

Audience quality

Overall, audience quality is good. I barely saw any fake accounts — even my usual Google Image search didn’t detect stock pictures

Age distribution

Lumen users are bound by the main app’s rule to be older than 50. The age span varies between 50 to 65, typically with women being slightly younger.

Gender distribution

The website has a 60-40% distribution of male and female accounts — men are more active on the service.

Fakes and scammers

The service has thorough verification algorithms — users have to prove their identity before they even start to register. Firstly, users approve their email addresses getting a confirmation letter to the inbox.

Next is photo verification. The app asks to upload profile pictures and requests a real-time selfie. Then, Lumen compares the face on the selfie to chosen photos using facial recognition algorithms.

★★★☆☆ respects a minimalistic, unisex style. The app’s look and feel are inspired by Tinder. In the feed, you can see users’ pictures and a short description — but you can also see more details.

Signing up

Lumen doesn’t ask users for detail early on. Registration fields are basic — email, password, gender, location, age, sexual preferences. Next, you need to add pictures — the app asks for 2-3 face close-ups, preferably you should be alone on the picture.

Lumen asks for photo verification — you have to take a real-time selfie that will go through facial recognition and determine the legitimacy of uploaded pictures. This selfie is never published, so there’s no need to glam up.

Lumen encourages users to fill out personal descriptions and sexual preferences. Reading the descriptions is fun — people go all in about their expectations. The profile gives enough information to carry you through the first date.

To get the profile activated, users have to add at least three pictures, but not more than six — each of them passes a facial recognition verification.

Lumen Social

It is my favorite feature — users participate in romantic and casual discussions on any of 7 topics: film and TV, home and garden, food, travel, sports, meet & greet, and a technical forum with Lumen dating reviews. My favorite community was “Meet & Greet” — it unites the most dedicated users of the app.

The discussions are structured in threads, like in Reddit. If you are more of a blogging person, you can create your community and post updates, even find followers. If you want to get to know some members closer, tap once — the app redirects you to the messenger.

The rule of thumb is, the more active you are in the community, the easier to find a partner. You have to show initiative instead of relying only on the feed.

Lumen allows users to start no more than 6 conversations in the free version, and 12 in the paid one. The app allows tracking the online status of a match — green dot stands for online status.

It’s a typical messenger — you can send and receive texts, preview their status, and exchange attachments. My eye caught a “Rewind” feature that allows previewing the last 10 skipped profiles — a fantastic option if you accidentally passed on someone.

Privacy and security

The moderation team does a great job of reviewing all active users, even those that registered a while ago. Too bad that these rules always keep users on their toes — you never know when a profile can be deleted.

Still, despite the inconvenience of Lumen’s safety checks, they work. You can barely find a shady profile; thankfully, my mom never got offensive messages.

Privacy Policy, however, didn’t seem as trustworthy — the app uses Russian servers to store sensitive data, and on top of that, the description of security practices is incredibly vague.

In reviews, users regularly complain that they can’t delete profiles — and it’s true. A traditional “right to be forgotten” was ignored by the app’s developers.

Hookup chance

Finding a partner in the single Lumen community wasn’t much of a challenge. You got a feed, thematic communities, and filtered search with real users. Here, people treat dating seriously — the “Meet & Greet” community serves a proof of that; I saw new reviews about meetings every day.

Matching algorithms

Lumen doesn’t evaluate competitive profiles or send personalized digest. The search filters are not too impressive either — I could sort profiles by age, distance, and gender. To know more, you have to click on each profile manually, read the description, and hope that a user will mention all the important details. It’s just not working for me — and my mom.

Because of these matching limitations, the feed is useless. I recommend heading straight to communities — at least you get to have fun there.

Before you decide to give private data away to an untrustworthy service, compare the app with a safe alternative.

Can you look up people on

Yes, but you have to know a person’s username. It is also helpful to know the age, gender, and location so that you can narrow down the search results.

Lumenapp is only a good idea so far

The Lumenapp good aspects are its concept and functionality, but it also calls for alarming security concerns. Unfortunately, the app’s execution lacks thought. Essential security concerns are ignored.

The feed lacks in-depth filters, and you got the only real chances to meet someone by participating in community discussions. Lumen dating is time-consuming — it takes a lot of involvement, but you got no guarantees.

My email:

Pure is for real meetings, not endless chats online

Pure users have only an hour to chat before their profiles disappear. In one hour, you send a casual sex request to potential matches near your location, discuss your desires, and share contact detail to set up an offline date. If you want to repeat the search and find other matches, you have to create a new profile. No worries, on sites for sex it takes a minute.
