As a Jewish guy in my mid-thirties, I find dating exhausting and time-consuming. I’ve always fallen for girls outside the religion, but getting old is no joke. Eventually, I decided to find a woman with similar family values and it turned out to be the biggest challenge. If you’ve been on a set-up date, you probably know what a horrible experience it can be. A few awkward attempts after, I figured out that using a Jewish online dating site is an ideal solution.
So why JPeopleMeet? It is one of the oldest niche dating sites dedicated mainly to American and Canadian users. Although it doesn’t have a huge audience, I’ve seen one of its “success stories” with my own eyes. Besides, it’s relatively cheap and has a free version, so I decided to test it.
There are three paid packages on JPeopleMeet. One month costs $13.99, three months are $26.97, and half a year subscription is $38.95.
Free services include creating a profile, uploading photos, browsing through all the profiles, viewing pictures, sending flirts, liking photos of other members, and adding to favorites.
Paid services include seeing members who sent you flirts, likes, and added you to favorites. Also, you can send and receive messages, initiate quick chats, leave comments, and enjoy the perks of advanced matching and search system.
Sadly, I was not completely satisfied with the audience offered on the website. I don’t want to offend the ladies, but there’s simply not enough choice. But probably I’m just spoiled with other mainstream dating apps where you have ten times more profiles to choose from.
But there’s a positive side to it. The beauty of the JPeopleMeet is that (almost) all the members are Jewish. I felt like a vegetarian who visited a vegan restaurant for the first time. The feeling that you’re actually don’t need to worry about the non-Kosher options is priceless.
The vast majority of the users are in their twenties, thirties, and forties. If you want to date younger or older audiences, the choice might disappoint you.
Fakes and scammers
Although the service doesn’t offer a secure profile-checking system—no email verification, no VPN detection—I haven’t come across fake profiles or scammers. According to other reviews, JPeopleMeet is a popular place for fraudulent activities, however, you might find a few non-Jewish people.
Remember what the web was like in the early 2000s? In case you didn’t catch the time of Craigslist dating, visit JPeopleMeet and you’ll have the similar impression that you’re back to that glorious age. Although easy-to-use, the interface needs urgent rebranding.
It took me 3 minutes to create an account on JPeopleMeet. First, you specify your gender and who you are looking for: the service allows searching for gay and lesbian matches too. But if you’re looking for a free gay hookup, JPeopleMeet is not the best place. Then you need to choose a country and it’s either the United States or Canada, as well as a Zip Code, fill in your name and password, date of birth, and your email.
The next step is to upload a photo: you can do it via Facebook, upload it manually, or skip this step. However, without a photo, you will be invisible to others. Finally, you need to come up with short self-introduction, not more than 1,250 symbols, and if you’re not good with words, the website offers examples. Then you can choose to subscribe for the membership or skip this step for now. JPeopleMeet login is done via your email and a password.
Profiles on JPeopleMeet have many details and the more information you fill, the better are your chances to find the right match. Besides, you can see when the person was last online.
Apart from regular information regarding your occupation, children, habits, appearance, income, and political views, you can specify your religious background, Synagogue attendance, and Kosher practicing.
The next block contains your short introduction and you can also use it to describe the person you are looking for and add some little details about what defines you.
Then you can answer seven personality questions and choose the answer from the offered ones. Are you romantic? Do you like movies? How patient are you? Tell your potential matches a little more about your persona.
Afterward, you may add 3 of the interests listed in the menu and choose up to four questions that people who you send messages to will be offered to answer. Is staying in shape important for them? What their goals in life are?
Judging by the depth of the questions, sex hookup and JPeopleMeet doesn’t go together. I would recommend looking for one-night stands elsewhere
The search functionality is poor. You can only filter users based on their age, distance, activity, and look for new members and those who are online. However, the paid version has additional filters such as Kosher practicing and Synagogue attendance and a better matching system.
On JPeopleMeet users can only chat with messages, no video calls are available. Free members can browse through profiles, send flirts, like photos, and save the profiles as favorites, but they cannot write or receive messages.
JPeopleMeet has no separate mobile app, only a mobile-friendly website. This is crazy because nowadays all dating services compete with each other whose app is more original and user-friendly. My personal number one is Pure. Their app has a simple design and at the same time it’s intuitive and a please to play with. Plus, their concept rocks. If you don’t wanna beat around the bush, you go there and you have only 24 hours to talk all the details in a secure chat. Then you either meet IRL or move to the next match. Plain and simple.
Security and privacy
In my experience, that was the first dating website that didn’t require confirming an email address. On one hand, it is a plus for anonymity, but at the same time, it is a free pass to all the scammers and fakes.
There are a few special features that you can buy to increase your chances of finding the right match.
When activated, this feature will put your profile on top of the search for one hour. More people will get to see you and get in touch.
If you like mystery, this feature is for you. Connect Me allows you to call your match anonymously if they are ok with that. None of your private info will be revealed.
Odds of Success
My main problem with JPeopleMeet is that the audience is not that big. The service doesn’t verify pictures and even an email, so chances are, there will be scammers. Although I haven’t met an entirely fake profile so far, I did talk to a girl who eventually revealed that she’s not Jewish herself but has a thing for Jewish men.
According to one of the JPeopleMeet review, it is not a bad place to look for your significant other:
“I used to hate dating sites. Everyone looks so full of themselves and fake. Nevertheless, I signed up for JPeopleMeet the last year and after a month of chatting to strangers, I’ve met somebody special. It was an instant like and we talked all night long online. Now we’re dating and I’ve never been happier! Thank you JPeopleMeet!”
The matching algorithm doesn’t work that great too. The search functionality is limited and I had to depend on pure luck and invest time to browse through the profiles. Being a stubborn person, I’ve managed to find a couple of cute profiles, so I stay hopeful!
JPeopleMeet is not for everybody. Luckily, there are alternatives. Whether you’re looking for free sex hookup sites or something completely opposite, I’m sure you’ll find something on one of the apps listed below.
They say a lot of marriages in the Jewish community happened because of the Jdate. Although the service is more expensive, your chances to find the one are higher.
If you’re looking for something more casual and not to keen on waiting for weeks before the action starts, try Pure. The app was created to make your hookup searches easier and more fun.
If having an impeccable background is something that you value in your potential partner the most, you need to try EliteSingles. The majority of the users are educated professionals who know exactly what they want and have no time to waste on casual dating.
