Hookup chance ★★☆☆☆

Cougar Life is one of the biggest milf dating sites on the market with a large Canadian community. As absolutley legit hook up site, CL targets mature women and young guys who want to enter a mutually beneficial relationship.

I got curious about the platform — the reviews are very controversial — and decided to sign up to see the truth for myself. The review will be based on five aspects:

  • Affordability: answering questions about costs, memberships, and available features;
  • Audience quality: describing an average user of the platform, sharing statistics, and detecting fakes;
  • Interface: taking an in-depth look at the functionality and design of the platform;
  • Security and privacy: analyzing service’s data policy;
  • Hookup chance: sharing my actual dating results.

To get a better idea of the service, I signed up for the platform for 30 days and upgraded my account to a premium membership. It’s safe to say that I explored everything that the site has to offer — well, I am ready to spill the tea.

Affordability

★☆☆☆☆

Registration is free. Users can view the search results, visit profiles, and send flirts to favorite members. However, the free version doesn’t include messaging features, which are the most important ones.

The full version costs $40.00 per month — it’s one of the most expensive online services that I’ve ever used. For this money, the service allows reading and getting messages, sending digital gifts, and boost a profile in search results. For such costs, I expected to see a much more — Cougar Life takes quite a lot of money for such basic features.

Audience quality

★★☆☆☆

Cougar Life currently has more than 4,900,000 members, the majority of which are from the US or Canada. The activity statistics are disappointing for such a large user pool — only about 150,000 members are active weekly.

Age and gender distribution

This is made specifically for the older women dating app is popular among men — they comprise about 70% of the user base, while mature ladies take up only 30%. The majority of users are young guys — 18-34 is the main age group.

Fakes and scammers

Even before I joined the service, I was aware of its reputation — according to online reviews, the majority of the members are fake. After I signed up for the service, I saw it — online communities weren’t lying. On my first day, I messaged a lot of attractive guys, but none of them answered. Only on the third day of my exploration, I started getting some legit messages.

It looks to me like Cougar Life uses fake accounts to increase their user pool statistics and justify unreasonably high prices. Dating becomes confusing because you can’t always differentiate fakes and real ones, especially if the official team generates them.

Interface

★★★★☆

Cougar Life does a good job of appealing to its target audience — the distinct 80s vibes with bright colors and elegant structure of the menu enhance the experience. If I register on a niche dating website, it’s important for me that the service reflects the values of the community — and Cougar Life does a great job.

Signing up

The registration on the website is short and simple — members have to specify their usernames, email addresses, and come up with a password. You can add a profile photo right during registration, but it’s not required. The service will request email validation — you’ll get a letter with a confirmation code to your inbox.

Registration on Cougar Life is free and fast

The only essential personal information required by the site is birth date, location, and gender. I went further than that and headed straight to the “Additional Detail” section. Here, users can describe their hair and eye color, ethnicity, and body type. A lot of users avoid these questions, though — you can, too.

The Dashboard

The feed with member search looks organized and clean. The members are separated by sections depending on their status and dating preferences. I like that I don’t have to scroll through profiles infinitely — they are already structured well.

Cougar Life’s dating is simple: you have filters and results that match your preferences

The filters are located at the upper left corner of the page. The search results are slow in the list — right away, you can see the photo, age, introductory message, personal descriptions, and messaging features.

Contacting other users

Cougar Life offers a lot of options for interacting with other members, almost like on specialized sext websites. If you have only a free version, your interaction choices will be limited to sending “Flirts.” To get messaging access, you need a premium subscription.

Full-version users can talk to matches directly in a chat or send “Flirts” — that’s the Cougar’s idea of like. Additionally, you can send a priority mail — it’s a virtual package with a digital gift or private picture, sent specifically for the match.

If you prefer real-time communication, you can go to an online chat. Unlike a messenger, where you can talk to online and offline users, the chat is only available for conversations with active members.

Personal profiles

Profiles show information on location, age, education, body type, eye and hair color, ethnicity. There is an “About Me” section, where users describe themselves, ideal partners, or relationship preferences.

Cougar Life members don’t put much effort into describing themselves

Personal photos can be uploaded to the public or private gallery — free users have access only to the first kind. You need to receive permission from the photo’s owner to preview locked content.

The website doesn’t have well-defined profile requirements, so most users don’t care about writing much in personal descriptions or putting unrequired filters.

Mobile app

Cougar Life has an app for iOS and Android devices with a free download, installation, and registration. The functionality and interface are similar to the main version — you have dashboards, flirts, messengers, and chats.

Privacy and security

★☆☆☆☆

The service doesn’t pay much attention to protecting its users’ data. According to the site’s privacy policy, personal information can be used for advertising and third-party purposes. That’s not something I’d like to get in a forty-dollar-worth subscription — after all, a paid website should be able to get by without ads.

Now, on personal safety. I didn’t feel well protected on the website because it has no profile verification. Even emails don’t have to be necessarily approved — it’s more of a recommended step. Plus, taking into account the number of fakes, I don’t know how much I can trust the moderation team.

Hookup chance

★★☆☆☆

There is one great aspect about Cougar Life: it’s easy to find a match here if you are female. With men taking over 70% of the user pool, there is always a line of potential dates. I didn’t even have to try to get guys’ attention.

Matching algorithms

When it comes to looking for matches rather than just accepting requests, Cougar Life was a disappointment. A lot of profiles are fake or inactive, and moderation is not too bothered about this. So, the service works well for those who’d rather wait for incoming messages that take the initiative into their hands.

I had two dates with guys from the platform, and — surprise, surprise — it turned out I knew absolutely nothing about them. It’s hard to choose a date properly when there is so little information to work with.

You can take a look at real-time journey in Cougar Life. This video was pretty close to my own experience on the website, so I definitely recommend it.

The bottom line

Cougar Life didn’t impress me with anything, expect its interface. The website looks nice and well-structured, but that’s not enough to justify the price of the subscription. The user pool is overwhelmingly fake, matching algorithms are practically non-existent, and members’ profiles lack details.

Still, if you would like some easy matches with younger guys and no competition, Cougar Life can work pretty well. If you’d rather look for matches yourself, go to a service with a legit user pool and actual security standards.
